Your visit begins with an objective, scientific evaluation of your current skin conditions during a consultation with Dr. Duke. Consultations are personally done by Dr. Duke, not an assistant.
As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Duke has specialized training in all aspects of your skin, and skin biology. This is her specialty, it’s not just another add-on service listed on a broad menu of treatments at an office run by someone without specialized training in skin care.
Additionally, after medical school and dermatology training at Harvard, Dr. Duke spent another year completing a clinical and a research fellowship in skin laser surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Wellman Center for Photomedicine in Boston, acquiring specialized training and experience in different types of skin laser surgery from some of the leading experts in the world.
Dr. Duke now specializes in cosmetic and laser dermatology and treatments, and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale Medical School where she teaches lasers to other doctors.
During your consultation with Dr. Duke, a digital imaging system is used to analyze your skin. This system takes detailed, computerized photographs of the skin that allows Dr. Duke to determine both surface and subsurface skin conditions. With this technology, Dr. Duke can determine the extent of sun damage, examine the condition of the pores and view skin pigmentation, texture and wrinkles. It even includes an ultraviolet photo that shows the underlying condition of your skin.
Based on the findings from your consultation, Dr. Duke will discuss your personal goals with you in detail. She will review treatment options and expected results, and make recommendations so that you make an informed decision. Based on your decision, Dr. Duke will design a customized treatment program and skin care regimen for you to follow.
All treatments are performed in specialized rooms designed and equipped with advanced laser systems and medical technology. These treatments include facial rejuvenation for sun-damaged skin; laser hair removal, reduction or elimination of brown spots, blood vessels and spider veins, tattoo removal and acne treatment.
Questions to Ask When Selecting a Skin Care Professional
The doctor you choose really does make a difference! Your treatment outcome depends on many factors -- including the training and experience of the doctor you choose, the treatment that is selected for your individual skin conditions, the technology that is utilized in your treatment, and how the technology is used.
Before choosing your physician, you should always ask these important questions:
- Who does the initial consultation – just the physician or mostly an assistant?
- What is the doctor’s specific training?
- What are they board-certified in (dermatology)?
- What is the doctor’s specific training with lasers?
- Did they complete a 1-year fellowship in lasers (if yes, where), or did they just get training at a weekend course from the sales rep of the laser manufacturer?
- Has the doctor participated in, and done, any laser research? Were their results published in any peer-reviewed, major medical journals?
- Have they presented their research at major medical conferences?
- Do they teach laser surgery to other doctors at teaching hospitals such as Yale or Harvard?
- Are all lasers conveniently located on-site all day, every day?
